This poem is lovely, inspiring, and insightful. It is the kind of poem that makes a person stop, think, and reflect while it gives a boost to their self-esteem. Even if we try to deny it, Williamson is right; one of our biggest fears is to be open and show others that we are talented. We are all capable of doing great things and meeting high standards in life. Some people “shrink,” in order to be accepted as part of a group, or because they are stuck in the comfort zone.
“Who are you not to be?” Some people don’t reach those goals because they feel like they don’t deserve to aim for the best, when in reality they are afraid of standing high and leading. It is within us, our choice to go far and successful, because as children of God, we were all created with a purpose in life. We are very important and indispensable in this world, to our family, to our community, and to other people.
When we grow out of that darkness and let our light shine we become like a torch that leads through giving guidance and with this torch many others can be lighten. Fear will always exist, but if we are able to control it we will accomplish many wonderful things such as motivating other people to gain confidence and self-esteem.
